On Friday, May 5, 2023, Senator Lanza will host a resource fair that will support people with developmental disabilities. Helpful information that will profile city and state programs focusing on education and health skills will be provided. Senator Lanza is strongly committed to providing much information and resources for special needs children and their parents. The event will take place at the Jewish Community Center at 1466 Manor Road from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Our IS 7 school community will be collecting food items for our annual Bread of Life Food Drive. Your child has an opportunity to earn a merit if they donate to the food collection.

SYEP is a six-week employment program that takes place from July, through mid-August. 14- and 15-year-old students participate in a project-based learning experience that provides enriching career exploration, emphasizes foundational work-readiness, fosters leadership, and develops social and emotional skills. This is an exciting opportunity relevant to all 8th graders; all students qualify and have an equal chance of being selected in the lottery.

Tap into the power of reading with book recommendations, including a multitude of Marvel graphic novels, plus free programs, events, and more for all ages at your friendly neighborhood library.
Starting Tuesday, October 11, 2022, the New York Public Library (NYPL) will be offering a limited edition Spider-Man library card. You can earn a merit and discover all that is available at the library at the same time. Just go to any branch of the NYPL, apply for a library card, show it to your ELA teacher and earn a merit. All students 12 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult to apply. If you are 13 or over, you can apply on your own. Already have a library card? No problem, just ask the librarian for the new Spider-Man card. This opportunity only applies to students who present a physical Spider-Man NYPL library card, no other library cards will be accepted to earn a merit. Supplies are limited, so it is suggested that you take advantage of this opportunity as soon as you can.
Our afternoon and evening Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held virtually on Thursday, March 16, 2023, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm and 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Dismissal on this day will be at 10:50 am. Yellow bus service will be provided according to our half-day schedule.

π We are excited to be hosting our first annual Swish and Wish-a-Thon Fundraiser at IS 7! π. This community event will help us raise funds to enhance end-of-year student activities, continue to make improvements to our IS 7 Vikings gymnasium, and add much-needed safety upgrades. This will be a high-energy interactive event that will promote school spirit and enhance our learning community. During the event, all students with sponsors will shoot 20 free throws to help reach our goal.

Sugar is IS 7's very own adorable Comfort Dog. As many of you already know, IS 7 is part of the NYC DOE Office of Safety and Youth Development Comfort Dog Program. The 2022-2023 school year is Sugar's sixth year here at IS 7. Although Covid has made our time with Sugar in the building a little difficult the past few years, she is always eager to get back into the swing of things.
Sugar just turned 7 years old on September 10, 2022, and she is a lovable terrier mix breed. She keeps busy going on long walks, playing with her favorite toys, and practicing some "tricks" for delicious treats. She canβt wait to be back and meet you all soon!
